Sex Magic: A ritual for healing, creativity and manifestation

Scorpio is one of the most intense, magnetic, and yes, sexiest archetypes of the zodiac. Ruled by Mars, the planet of desire and passion, and Pluto, the planet of power, taboo, and transformation, this sign has a natural understanding of both the physical pleasure that comes with sex, and also, the emotional intimacy, spiritual illumination, and creative manifesting power.

Scorpio knows there is a direct connection between sex, spirituality, and creativity. Sexual energy is life force energy, after all. Through it, we give birth to new life—be it actual human life, intense soul connections, or new ideas and projects. It allows us, in full freedom and trust, to energetically express our joy in life and find healing in the sacred union. It’s astounding how much intellect and energy is used to suppress, hide, and redirect this force.

Before patriarchal religions introduced the concept of sex as “sinful”, ancient tribes viewed “eros” as a natural path to connecting with the sacred. Ancient feminine mystery knowledge placed women at the center of the tribe, enabling them to connect with nature and the goddess, and to practice fertility and sexuality rituals.

However, we have veered significantly off track as a society, and most of us have a complex and often unhealthy relationship with our sexuality and sensuality. We live in a culture that has a peculiar and twisted relationship with sex—it is ubiquitous in advertising, film, entertainment, and social media, yet we are simultaneously told we are not allowed to enjoy it. Most people never make the connection that their sexual energy is key to their creativity and overall vitality. The Scorpio season answer to this: sexual transmutation.

What is sexual transmutation exactly? It is the process of converting sexual energy into energy of another nature, usually for the purpose of creation or other life-affirming actions. It's about channeling sexual energy into other areas of our lives.

Before we can tap into this juicy, life-changing magic, we need to unpack any shame or blocks that separate us from the power of our pleasure.

Our culture is particularly bound by a fear of sexuality, which is projected onto individuals starting early in childhood. Sexual energy is the life force moving through the whole body, and when it flows easily, it vitalizes all energy centers. However, sexual energy for a lot of us is wounded and can become stuck or stagnant, particularly if the heart center is affected.

Scorpio season is the perfect time to address any significant blocks or leaks in one or more of the energy centers. All cultures govern relationships in various ways, especially sexual relationships. Controlling people’s reproductive functions and creating fear and shame around sexuality are tools of the patriarchy used to repress and suppress individuals, a trend we see now more than ever.

Reframing your internal messages about sex is a great first step in this “un-conditioning” process before the magic begins. Spend time with the following questions to create awareness of the thoughts that you may have accepted without questioning their truth:

What were you taught about sex growing up? Which of these attitudes and beliefs did you internalize?
Do you believe that sex and emotional intimacy are linked, or is it possible to have a sexual relationship without emotional attachment? What experiences influence your answer?
In what ways do you nurture your personal sense of sexuality and/or sexual relationships?
If you could have the ideal sex life right now, what would that look and feel like?

Bonus: before performing the ritual, you can channel these answers into some sort of creative artistic expression through poetry, collage, painting or music if it feels good.

Sex Magic Ritual

After unpacking and creating awareness around any limiting beliefs or shame we may hold about our sexuality, we can realize that this part of us is one of pure joy and ecstasy, particularly at the moment of orgasm.

The below ritual does just that by tapping into “sex magic”, a spiritual practice that teaches that with enough intention and mindfulness, you can transform the raw energy from your sex center into golden manifestations.

Sex magic is not new; it has roots in various ancient cultures, including Tantra in India, which views sexual union as a means to achieve enlightenment and spiritual transcendence.

Sex Magic may sound really “out there”, but ultimately, it is a way to come back into yourself, step back into your divinity, and realize that you are innately powerful in your own right.

This ritual is for solo sacred self-pleasure, which I recommend starting with, but can easily be incorporated with a trusted partner.

Create Sacred Space. First, clean and clear your space (metaphorically making room for what you’re manifesting to enter your reality). Light a candle (ensure the lighting in the room is sensual—you can also use twinkle lights or salt lamps). Put on music that reflects the mood. Wear something that makes you feel gorgeous, and consider sprinkling flower petals on the bed or floor.
Set and Get Clear on Your Intention. Before engaging in sex magic, it is crucial to set and clarify your intention. If you are working with a partner, you can do the ritual together, discussing your intention in advance to ensure you both agree on the desired outcome.
Wrap Yourself in Light. Sit quietly and call in a sphere of white light around you. Once you envision it and feel fully protected and clear of any energy drains, imagine a rich green light moving through you.
Connect Energetically with Breath, Sound, and Movement. Energy and breath are essential for releasing thoughts and expanding into the moment of being fully present in your body. Through conscious breath, you can begin to run energy through your body with breath, sound, and movement, maintaining full awareness.
Sensual Touch. Anoint yourself with oil. Start with a slow build-up on your temples and pulse points, then move to your heart chakra. Gradually extend that pleasurable touch to your whole body. If your mind wanders, try to drop deeper into your senses—notice every glide and movement of your hands, the scent of the oil, and the flicker of the candle's flame.
Sublimate the Sexual Energy. Many of us tend to “rush to the finish line” in sex (just like in life!). The Tantric practice of sublimation is a way of saying slow down. In other words, the goal is to avoid a genital orgasm and instead raise sexual energy into the heart. Extending the experience and allowing your sexual energy to build gradually enhances your magical power. Luxuriate in your sensuality. Let your excitement slowly increase until you feel almost ready to climax, then back off and do some deep breathing.
Visualize. Begin to visualize your intended desire until it feels incredibly real. While you pleasure yourself, focus on what you’re trying to manifest in your mind's eye. Fully immerse yourself in that visualization so that the feelings wash over you. Feel the emotions attached to what you're calling in. It can be helpful to say affirmations out loud, phrased as if you have already achieved what you’re trying to manifest.
Manifest at the Point of High Arousal. During periods of high arousal, don’t just envision what you are manifesting; imagine rainbows, light, and streams of abundance washing over you with every stroke and touch. The more intense your feelings, the faster you can attract what you desire. In this near-orgasmic state, your magnetic power is at its highest. You don’t have to focus on your vision all the time, but remain aware of it. As you raise energy and cycle it through your body, give yourself permission to explore new realms. New things will emerge from the magic that sex adds to your manifesting. You’re so blissed out that your mind gets out of the way, granting your imagination and unconscious desires more freedom.
Activate and Release. As you feel ready to release the energy you’ve built up, hold your vision clearly in your mind and feel the pleasure of having your desired outcome manifested in your life. Now, let your orgasm wash through you. As it does, allow the waves of your pleasure to send your vision into the universe. At the moment of orgasm, you might speak a word or phrase that encapsulates what you want—or imagine a cosmic lasso pulling it toward you!
Bask in Your Bliss. Afterwards, lie in your own cosmic glow and feel the vibrations of your life force. Offer yourself a self-massage, stretch, or place your hand on your heart or belly, sending deep healing and gratitude to yourself and what is activating. Close the sacred space by offering thanks to your guides and Higher Self. Snuff out the candles and rest or journal.
Let Go and Trust. Trust the universe to take care of things now and trust the magic of this sacred act. Sex magic has been with us always and always will be. At this very moment, you possess the ability to make your life whatever you want it to be—not through hard work and struggle, but by expressing the joy and pleasure that is your birthright.

Remember: the most powerful ingredient in any magic ritual is you. You are a force of nature—you are a cosmic bombshell!
